What are HDD and SSD? HDD (Hard Disk Drive) is a familiar device to all of us who use computers, and those who have a rough idea about computers are also familiar with this device. Everyone knows it as a hard disk. It is basically a storage device of the computer.
But now another device like HHD is becoming very popular, which is known as Solid State Drive (SDD). Hard Disk Drive was first introduced by IBM in 1958. We have been using HDD for various purposes for about 70-72 years.
As a result of its constant development, its use is noticeable in today’s day to day servers and personal computers.
Most computers today use hard disks as a permanent (non-volatile) way to store data. In addition to hard disks, hard disks are now used in devices such as digital video recorders, music players, etc.
More than 200 companies have prepared this drive at different times.
What are HDD and SSD? It is currently being developed by a number of well-known companies, most notably Seagate, Toshiba, and Western Digital.
Hard Disk [Hard Disk Drive]
The hard disk is basically composed of concentric multiple discs. This is called platters. These are covered with a magnetic metal. Platters are attached to magnetic heads. They come with another active actuator arm.
These actuators are used to read and store information from the surface of the arm platters. The data is transferred to the drive on a random-access basis.
This means that when the data is placed on the drive they are not sorted one by one but the data is stored in any empty space.
The primary feature of a hard drive is its capacity and functionality. The main advantage of an HDD is that it can store a large amount of data.
Nowadays, 1TB (Terabyte-1,024 Gigabyte) storage is very normal for a laptop hard drive, and this space can be used easily.
SSD – Full meaning(Solid State Drive)
As of 2015, the main competing technology for hard drives is a flash memory called Solid State Drive (SSD). The data is stored in the microchip in the same way as the data is stored in the USB drive.
We are all probably familiar with pen drives or USB memory sticks. This SSD is basically a USB memory stick or a larger and improved version of our familiar pen drive.
It has no disk or moving part but instead has a microchip in which the information is stored. SSDs are commonly called NAND-based flash memory. What are HDD and SSD: It is a non-volatile type of memory.
Simply put, it is a kind of reservation system where even if you turn off the disk, it does not forget where it is kept. For those who have read NAND GATE- NOR GATE, the matter is clear.
And this is the non-volatile property, it is very important and necessary for permanent memory. Macs work much faster in terms of speed because the Mac uses an SSD (Solid State Drive) instead of a hard disk.
Solid-state drives cost a lot more than hard disks, so it hasn’t reached everyone yet. Computers using Solid State Drive take only 10-15 seconds to start, while computers using Hard Disk Drive take about 1 minute to start.
This SDD is much thinner and thinner in size than the hard disk, so you can use the SDD to get faster performance if you don’t have money problems.
In addition, the SSD provides much better support for speeding up any task on the computer, and SSD is now used in most server computers.
